Intelligence of parents of autistic children.

Parents of autistic children were administered a standard vocabulary test of intelligence to test Rimland's hypothesis that these parents are uniformly of extremely high intelligence. 3 cases were selected who had high autistic to schizophrenic ratios on Rimland's checklist. While all 6 of the parents were average or above in intelligence for the general population, none was of extremely high intelligence. Either Rimland's hypothesis is not supported, or his checklist has limited validity as a measure of infantile autism.
